For nearly two decades, I had the privilege of picking stocks for our worldwide membership through two flagship services. Through Motley Fool Stock Advisor, from March 2002 through May 2021, I generated 20.6% annualized returns for our members, compared to the S&P 500’s 9.1%. Through Motley Fool Rule Breakers, working alongside a stellar team, we delivered 16.2% annualized returns versus the market’s 10.6%. Believing in quality and quantity, I made 13 accountable recommendations every month for 15+ years across both services, and those picks crushed the market in aggregate.

These days, you can find me hosting my weekly podcast, Rule Breaker Investing, which has published a new episode every single week since July 2015. I spend equal time on my three great passions — investing, business, and life — and love welcoming world-class authors, conscious capitalists, game designers, and all-star athletes to the show. But it’s driven most by my incredible listeners, whose constant feedback I tackle in our monthly Mailbag episodes. We reach about 90,000 listeners each month.

My wife Margaret and I both graduated as Morehead-Cain Scholars from UNC Chapel Hill in 1988 (I was subsequently honored to receive their Distinguished Young Alumni Award). When I’m not investing or podcasting, you’ll likely find me playing games — especially board games. I’ve collected hundreds of them over the years, and Margaret and I have spent countless hours playing them with our three (now grown) children.

I’ve been fortunate to serve on various boards, including 15 years on the NYSE’s Individual Investor Advisory Committee, 10 years with the Folger Shakespeare Library, and a half-dozen years with the Conscious Capitalism Institute. As a lifelong Washingtonian, I particularly loved being part of Leadership Greater Washington’s 2019 graduating class. I’m also “Limited Partner #1” in Motley Fool Ventures’ debut fund — because I just can’t help but keep investing in all forms.
